This winter, your child’s spelling progress was reevaluated. Using this information, your child has been placed in a spelling group that best fits his or her current needs. You may notice that your child is now working with a new teacher and/or new peers. You may also notice that your child is reviewing words from earlier in the year. In life, it often takes more than one week of practice to master a skill. This is true for spelling too. Despite this new grouping, the focus remains on analyzing and categorizing words by their similarities and differences rather than just memorizing lists. Our ultimate goal is to help students build a deeper understanding of word features so that they can apply this knowledge to their reading and writing.
Thank you for your support as we engage your child in activities will help them become more confident in reading, writing, analyzing, and organizing words. If you have any questions, I would be happy to provide additional information.
