Author Ethan Long visited our school on Friday morning. He shared how being an author and illustrator is a process that requires a lot of reflection and revision. He then helped us practice these important skills as we created a new character together and explored her actions and personality.

We teamed up with Mrs. Jensen's class and our school librarian to learn the first step of note taking, determining trash or treasure. We learned how smart note takers are constanly reflecting on whether or not new facts are treasures that help them answer their research question or trash that can be forgotten or saved for another time.

This week we are excited to be putting the finishing touches on publishing our personal narratives. This writing unit focused on developing a story with a beginning, middle, and end. We worked hard to add in details that kept the reader in mind as we explored literary language. We cannot wait to share these stories with you at conferences.
