Today, our Everybody Counts volunteers joined our classroom to help us better understand what a hearing impairment is and how people with hearing impairments make the world work for them. We learned about closed-caption movies, sign language, lip reading, new technology, and much more. Today helps us appreciate how everyone is different but that's okay!
![]() This week, we are continuing our study of multi-digit addition. One strategy we use in the classroom is called the Partial-Sums Method. Challenge your student to share this method with you at home. The picture to your left is a problem we completed together in class. Below is a movie made by a fellow teacher to remind students how to use this method to solve any addition problem they may encounter. We will be learning the traditional algorithm at the end of the week. After we have learned all of our strategies, each student will pick the strategy that works best for them! ![]() Mrs. Belesiotis joined our classroom today to help us read The Lotus Seed. We focused on leaving tracks of our thinking by placing post-it notes next to pieces of the story. The story was challenging and really forced us to use all of our strategies We enjoyed discussing our codes and even got to see a read lotus seed pod up close. |
