Today we began our first social studies unit of the year, Citizenship. We will be studying what it means to be a citizen, what it means to leave a legacy, and how our government works. We started off by learning about Mount Rushmore. We were shocked to learn how large this sculpture truly is. Can you believe Roosevelt's mustache is twenty feet wide? We brainstormed many wonderings about our new unit. You can see some of our wonderings above!
Three scientists from High Touch High Tech visited our classroom to help us investigate Newton's Three Laws of Motion. We participated in several experiments to test his laws for ourselves and see force in action. For many, our favorite experiment was feeling equal, balanced forces on the gyroscope. See Srimathi's turn below or check out our Photo page until the Tidbits Tab to see more pictures!
Hello, Room Reps for Miss Goldstein's 2nd grade class!
Happy Monday from the Everybody Counts Committee!! It's a new week and there is never a slow day for the busy Room Representatives of Westgate School! We know last week you were asked to forward names for the Art Appreciation Program... the flavor of this week is Everybody Counts!
The EC program this year will run Tuesday, November 19th through Friday, November 22nd. It's time for the committee to start gathering and organizing the 120 volunteers we need to successfully run our program for Grades 1st-5th. Can you please pull out those volunteer sign up sheets you all used at Parent Night and forward any parent volunteer names/emails you have to us by Friday, October 4th?
The EC Committee will then communicate directly with the parent names/emails you forward to us to confirm they are available the classroom assigned date & time. Should we find that your classroom lacks enough volunteers (we hope for 5 per room...3 presenters & 2 alternates) we will send you another pre-written email soliciting more volunteers for you to simply forward to your classroom.
We thank you in advance for sending us your names for Everybody Counts by Friday, October 4th and for sending any followup emails to your classroom rosters! It is our goal to keep the volunteer solicitation process out of your hands past this initial request and hopefully only one follow-up email. If you have any questions, please direct them to the committee member in charge of your grade level, as noted below.
Have a wonderful week!
